about
my counsellor profile.
My name is Victoria Philpin, and I am a qualified counsellor (UKATA), and trainee psychotherapist (UKCP) in advanced clinical training at The Berne Institute. I have an MA in Interdisciplinary Psychology, and a BA in Criminology. My experience is in providing counselling in a volunteer placement setting, as well as in private practice in North Leeds. I work online, and in person.
my training in advanced clinical psychotherapy.
I began my journey in counselling and psychotherapy after becoming increasingly interested in wellbeing, and what makes us happy, having sought great benefit from psychotherapy myself. My career had been focused in the corporate space for ten years after graduating, so after taking a number of courses, I decided to re-train.
The method of psychotherapy practiced at the good work is called Transactional Analysis. This a person centred, relational approach to therapy that focuses on developing a secure base in the counselling room, to support you safely, and comfortably working through difficult experiences and problems.
how therapy sessions work.
In our therapy together we will explore historical or recent challenges that have brought you here, and work together to understand how these have arisen. We will spend the first few sessions learning about your experiences growing up, through to the present day. We will gently explore barriers to wellbeing, and I will support you to develop healthier ways of being to alleviate the problems you are experiencing.
I work with individuals, and groups. If you are not sure which type of therapy would be more suitable, I offer a free consultation to explore which might be more helpful.
tackling difficulties together.
Sometimes counselling can be difficult, and upsetting feelings can surface as we work through them. This is very normal, as we are bringing things out of the shadows that have often been hidden from view for many years. It can be helpful to remember that by taking the decision to improve your quality of life, you are giving yourself the greatest gift, which will strengthen and support you long after the difficult feelings pass.
